DISTRICT NEWS. Penybank.

29th November 1917

Priv. Williie Bevan Rees.

It was with profound regret that the news was received of the death of Private Williie Bevan Rees, who fell in action somewhere in Palestine. The departed was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Rees, of Raven Hill,  Penybank. Shortly before the sad news arrived his parents had received a cheerful letter from him. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the sorrowing parents and their family.

A memorial service to the late Private. Willie Bevan Rees, Welsh Regiment, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Rees, Raven Hill, Penybank, who fell in action on November 3rd in Palestine, was held on Sunday evening at St. Michael’s Church.

The Rev. D. Spenser Jones (curate), in the course of his discourse, paid a high tribute to the deceased soldier’s many good traits. At the close of the service, the Dead March in “Saul” was played by Miss Lilian Roberts organist.

Previous to joining the Colours, Private Rees was employed with Messrs. James Howell and Co., drapers, Cardiff. (F)
