18th January 1917 GUNNER JOHN MOSES. |
||
Gunner John, R. F. A., son of Mr. Moses John, of Attercliffe, Sheffield (a native of Landore); nephew of Mr. Thomas John, Mill Terrace, Pantyffynnon, and cousin of Mr. John John, Pantyffynnon, who was killed in France during the attack on Gueuedecourt, in September last. He was in a dug-out with nine other telegraphists and officers, when a shell burst close over the dug-out, and John, who was sitting inside, was killed instantly, being struck by at least three pieces of the shell, all in the vital parts. All the occupants of he dug-out were either killed, wounded, or received shellshock. His officer writes he had done splendid work, and he had recommended his gallant conduct to a higher military authority, and hoped to have seen him decorated for it.
