The following letter, enclosing photograph, has been received from the Hospital Convalescent Camps, Ghain Iuppiena, Malta : —
“Sir, — At the request of the Ammanford boys in the photograph group, I herewith enclose you a small snapshot of the boys reading their much sought for paper. Needless to say, the Amman Valley Chronicle is a source of comfort and interest to us all.
New from home is always welcomed. You will observe that the paper is most conspicuous; the other paper is a camp one, compiled by convalescent soldiers. The men are now convalescent, and are well on the road to recovery after malaria fever.
All the Welsh boys here are looking forward with considerable interest to the 1st of March, when we will assemble and celebrate St. David’s Day in the good old Welsh fashion.
A large order for leeks has already been given to a Maltese farmer (who ploughs the soil with a little wooden plough which a man can easily pick up under his arm).
The boys are very cheerful, and say ‘Roll on the day when we arrive at Ammanford again.’
“Yours faithfully (for the boys).
