FAITH.
Only a little word is Faith;
Yet it has cradled all the great
Inventors, writers, and men of State.
‘Twas Faith that sent the first pioneer
On to the weary trail, now where
Are made great cities, far and near.
‘Twas Faith that harnessed up the steam
That sent the steamship down the stream,
And crowned a man’s ambitious dream.
Don’t think that Nature is more king
To one; no, “Seek and you will find.”
So said the greatest Man of mind.
Don’t underrate; yourself’s as good
As those men. They were flesh and blood,
But had the faith they could and would.
‘Tis no good sitting down today,
Expecting things to come your way;
You’ll soon find that will never pay.
The fountain head, the sun’s bright ray,
Works ceaselessly both night and day,
Or this old world would soon decay.
