DEAR HEART
You are to me like sunshine to flowers,
Or to faded grass the welcome showers;
Or ever-welcome light of day
That drives despairing gloom away.
I used to think, when skies were blue,
That you were happy, darling, too;
‘Its not so in this world of care –
There’s always cloudy skies somewhere.
But that we’ll meet again some day,
When these dark clouds have rolled away,
And tell the tales when you and I
Made vows beneath a foreign sky.
So keep you vow, and I’ll keep mine,
While there is life there still is time
To see your eyes like blue skies shine,
I know, dear heart, that I am thine.
