A reception concert was held at Christian Temple, on Wednesday evening, to welcome Private Emlyn Davies, Union Street, who has returned from France on furlough. He has two brothers in the Army.

‘Ladies’ Physical Drill Club is ---W--- its bi-weekly drills every Monday and Thursday, under the instruction of Mrs. Chas. Fletcher. The membership now numbers over forty, and any young ladies desirous of joining can do so up to Christmas.

The ---W--- most interesting, and at the ---W--- play to be held at the end of ---on, the programme will include ----ing squad, fencing match, and -----d exercise.

Lieut. General Sir ---W--- Hills-Johnes, V. C., G. C. B., accepted the presidency of the ---W--- and the vice-presidents include ---W--- Towyn Jones, M. P., Mr. ---W--- Peel, J. P., Mr. A. E. BETTWS

Private W. H. Powell, of Maesyberllan Terrace, on his arrival home from Greece, was on Saturday made the recipient of a gift of £3 as a token of appreciation of the villagers.

The present was made by Mr. Wm. Fowler, chairman of the Betts Reception Fund. Private Powell is confined to his bed suffering from the effects of malaria.

TYCROES

Privates Emrys Rees (Tircoed), Ivor Davies (Pantyffynnon), and Seaman Gunner D. Jones were the guests at a concert given in the Church of England School, Tycroes.

The former is one of the four sons of Mr. Dd. Rees now serving in the Army. Private Ivor Davies has returned home wounded.

The chairman of the concert was Mr. J. Davies, Woodville.

GARNANT

We are very thankful to Mr. and Mrs. Folland for their kindness towards the poor of the place, by allowing them from £1 to £1 5s. worth of groceries.

Mr. Folland also gives a parcel value 5s. to every soldier and sailor who has left the Raven and Garnant Tin Works to fight for their country.

This is a good lead to other employers in the place. I am sure that the whole of Cwmamman appreciates their kindness.

Intimation has been received by Mr. Crump, Twyn, that his son, Lance Corpl. John W. Crump, has been awarded the Military Medal for bravery on the field on October 18th. Lance Corpl. Crump has been with the Army for the last eight years, and in the thick of the fighting since the war broke out.

We congratulate him on being the first to win the Military Medal from Garnant. I hope that he will be a V. C. when he comes home.

A grand reception concert was held at Stepney Hall to Mr. Robert Rees Morris, of H. M. S. Orion. The Rev. Edryd Jones presided, and the following artistes took part : — Mr. Owen Morgan, Mr. Wm. Price Rees, Miss Sarah Evans, Miss Maggie Blodwen Rees, Miss Eva Cook: recitation, Miss Miriam Evans; also the Garnant Juvenile Choir, under the leadership of Mr. Harry Owen. I am sorry that the above was not reported sooner.
