Fallen Private W. J. Thomas Lce. Corpl, W. T. Davies

Official intimation has been received by Mrs. M. Thomas, 32 New Road, Ammanford, that her husband, Private W. J. Thomas, 8th R. W. F., Indian Expeditionary Force, died in Mesopotamia on July 11th.

He was a native of Pantyffynnon, where he worked as a tinplater, afterwards going to Shotton, North Wales, before enlistment.

There was a large attendance at a reception concert given at Gwynfryn Chapel, on Monday evening, in honour of Lce. Corpl, W. T. Davies, son of Mr. David Davies, schoolmaster.

The proceedings were presided over by Mr. Robert Leonard, who presented the wounded hero with a cheque on behalf of the church, and Mr. T. M. Evans, M. A., Clerk to the Urban Conuncil, also presented him with a cheque from the Local Reception Committee’s fund.

Lce. Corpl, Davies, who, it should be mentioned, was wounded in France a few weeks ago by a bullet furrowing his cheek, made a suitable response.
