Many of our local heroes are falling in action in the great offensive on the Western Front. Private James Chapman, 15th Welsh (Carmarthenshire Battalion), has been killed, while Private Lewis Moses, of the same battalion, has been seriously wounded.
Private Chapman, previous to joining the Colours, was employed at the Raven Tinplate Works, Glanamman. He came to the district from Brynamman many years ago, and used to lodge with Mrs. Rowlands, Cwmffrwd Villas.
He was a very kind and gentle young fellow. May he rest in peace. Many others are unofficially reported missing.

We were visited last week by many of our local soldiers, some coming from the Front, others from convalescent homes, while others were from their training quarters.
Private Abel Jones came on a short leave to recuperate after having been wounded in action, a splinter of shrapnel penetrating his knee. He was attached to a Machine Gun Corps.
Driver Evan Rees, R. F. A., came home for a short rest, after having been at the Front for many months.
Soldiers home from their training quarters were G. M. P. Joseph. O Jones, Driver Rees Thomas, Private Benny Thomas (Canadian Regiment). Driver Tom Jones, and Private David Madge. All of them looked remarkably well.
