News has been received that Private D. J. Davies, formerly of Heol Las, Ammanford, has been killed in action.

Captain A. E. Richard, of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, whose home is at Brynffin, Ammanford, is “down” with trench fever, and has been removed from France to hospital in London.

Capt. Richard has taken a foremost part in several dangerous night sorties. He is the son of the Rev. W. Richard, secretary of the C. M. Home Mission, and of Mrs. Richard, and a nephew to the late Lieut. Col. D. Morris. He was recently married to a Pontypridd lady.

On Sunday last, All Saints’ Church, Ammanford, was crowded with a reverent congregation on the occasion of a solemn memorial service for Capt. J. W. James, of the Hampshire Regiment, son of Mrs. James, College Street, and other heroes who have fallen in the war.

There was a parade of the V. T. C., whose members, to the number of about 100, marched from the Drill Hall to the Square, and back to the church, headed by the Ammanford Urban Silver Band.

Suitable hymns were sung, and an appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev. J. W. Jones, B. A., vicar. At the close of the service the “Dead March” in “Saul” was played on the organ by Mrs. Edwards, after which the “Last Post” was sounded by Mr. Owen Madden, the whole service being most impressive.

The Commandant of the V. T. C. (Mr. W. N. Jones) and the Sub-commandant (Mr. W. L. Smith) were present.
