LLANDEBIE.

Corpl. J. R. D. Davies, whose home is at Sunny Bank, has been promoted sergeant on the field. He has seen service in France for over eighteen months.

Private John Hughes, of Blaenau Mill, who was 23 years of age, and has seved in France for about ten months with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, has been killed in action.

The utmost sympathy is felt with his parents, who lost another son during the fighting at Gallipoli.

PENYBANK.

Private David Thomas, of 2, Trefrhiw Terrace, Penybank, has sustained shrapnel wounds in the right arm, and is now lying in hospital in Leicester.

He is a young single man, and has a brother, Lce-Corpl. W. J. Thomas, serving in the Army.

The home-coming of Private W. J. Hopkins, of Brynteg, who was wounded in Gallipoli, was celebrated by a reception concert given at Pisgah.

A large crowd assembled, and Mr. Thos. Jenkins, manager of the Rhos Colliery, presided. During the evening Private Hopkins was presented with two gifts, one handed over by Mr. Evan Richards, on behalf of the Penybank Committee, and the other by Mr. Joseph Davies on behalf of the Tycroes Committee.

Mr. Rufus Williams, Tycroes, and friends, contributed an instrumental quartette, and there were solos by Madame McCarthy Edwards, Messrs. D. J. Anthony, W. J. Anthony (Penybank), D. B. Jenkins and J. R. Richards.

A duet, “Gwys I’r Gad,” was given by R. J. Thomas, A. C. V., and his pupil, Miss Rees, Colliers’ Arms, gave a violin duet.

Recitations were rendered by Misses Millicent Rees and Lottie Rees. Mr. Rees Richards (Pencerdd Saron) was accompanist.
