To the Editor, Amman Valley Chronicle
Sir, — I am writing to you as I belong to Ammanford. I have been out a good spell now, and have been in the swim. Well, sir, as regards war news I can give you but little. Things seem a little brighter. We are enjoying a spell of fine weather here now. The weather has been very wet and cold.
I am at present in hospital, having had a bad attack of bronchitis, but am mending nicely. One thing I should like to ask some friend if they will send me a razor (a good razor is Tommy’s friend), and some of the Welsh boys whom I know also long for a pipe of Ringer’s tobacco and some pipes.
You will find me by sending to No. 6259, Private Wm. Sullivan, 30th Division,
B. E. F. I worked in Tirydail Colliery previous to enlistment. I have already seen three campaigns – Chitral, South Africa and this one, so I am a bit of an old warrior.
My wife lives in Llandebie.
Well, sir, I should also like your paper as well. I hope soon to come over to see you all. Have been in a hot place out here a time or two, but came out all right. Best remembrance to all friends. Tell them to keep on smiling. There’s a silver lining through the dark cloud shining – I remain your faithfully.
WM. SULLIVAN.
