The great success of Russian Flag Day, when no less that £51 13s. 3d. was realised by the ladies engaged in selling the flags, was in no small measure due to the excellent organisation of the movement by Mr. W. L. Smith, magistrates' clerk.
This gentleman is an assiduous worker in whatever he undertakes, and the propensity of his neighbours to take advantage of his willingness to assist any movement is assuredly leading to the “overburdening of the willing horse.”
The latest addition to his many honorary duties is that of secretary to the newly formed Volunteer Training Corps, and though it is nominally only a pro tem appointment, there is little doubt the members of the Corps will be loath to release him.
As an ex-sergeant of the Carmarthen Company of the 4 th Welsh, he brings to his new duties a knowledge which should stand him in good stead and be of advantage to the Corps.
