AMMANFORD AND VALLEY LADIES. ENGAGED IN A GOOD WORK. P5
As was foreshadowed in last week's issue, an Ammanford Division of the Sailors and Soldiers' Families Association has been formed, which has for its objects the relief of dependents of men who have been called up to serve in His Majesty's Forces.

The activity of these ladies has already served to bring to light several cases of distress, and relief has been granted. A fund has been opened locally, and contributions are welcomed. The cause is most deserving, and we have no doubt that the response will be spontaneous. The following are the officers for the division :-President – Mrs. Hewlett, Wernoleu.
Vice-President – Mrs. Jones, The Vicarage.
Treasurer –Mr. O. R. Evans, Metropolitan Bank.
Hon. Secretary – Mr. Emlyn Davies Brynceri, Union Street .
The representatives from the district forming the committee are as follows :-
Ammanford , Bettws, Tirydail and Pantyffynnon – Mrs. Fisher, Wansbeck, and Mrs. Davies, Tirydail House.
Llandebie – Miss M. Dubuisson.
Gorslas and Penygroes – Mrs. Britten, Mrs. Davies, and Mrs. Morgan,
Brynaman – Mrs. G. Vaughan and Mrs. W. J. Williams, Ammanfryn,
Garnant– Miss M. Morgan, Neuadd Mill.
Glanamman – Miss Hues, Bryncoed
STOP PRESS FOR WAR NEWS. P1
It is officially announced that on Tuesday the French on the Southern Frontier were attacked in force by Germans. The attack was repulsed and the enemy retired all along the line. Russia is advancing rapidly into German territory, driving irresistibly before it all the German and Austrian forces. The Russian General Staff report that the Tsar’s troops are now in occupation of the whole of the Southern and Eastern half of Eastern Prussia. It is reported that a German aeroplane has been brought down in the Quesnay district. It fell into British lines, and was totally destroyed while the officers in charge were killed. News is still coming through of the magnificent bravery shown by the British troops at Mons, and a soldier describes the scene as “a veritable hectacomb of German corpses.” The Kaiser’s nephew is a prisoner.
BRISK RECRUITING AT AMMANFORD.
SEVENTY WITHIN A FORTNIGHT.
P5
The appeal of Lord Kitchener for recruits for his second arm has not fallen on deaf ears so far as Ammanford and the outlying districts are concerned. We are informed that during the last fortnight not less than 70 young men have enlisted at the recruiting centre at the Drill Hall, Ammanford.
