WHAT THE CHURCHES ARE DOING.

THE BOYS REMEMBERED FROM AMMANFORD

Gifts from Christian Temple, Bethany and Tirydail Weasleyans.

In this time of great crisis it cannot be said that Ammanford churches have failed to perform – and that nobly and well – the exceptional duties devolving upon them.

They have forwarded and are forwarding hundreds of parcels containing most welcome presents to their loyal sons serving with the colours, and in all respects they have exhibited a rare spirit of devoted solicitude for the welfare and well being of the young men of the town who have obeyed the call.

They have appeared in previous issues of the Chronicle list of the gifts sent and the names of the recipients, as well as those who worked in connection with the preparation of the presents, from several of the churches, and this week we are able to furnish similar lists from other churches.

It is only fair to state, however, that all the religious bodies of the town, without a single exception, have moved in the matter, and have not allowed the present season of goodwill to pass without remembering in a tangible way their sons adherents.

CHRISTIAN TEMPLE

For the last two months the ladies of Christian Temple have worked assiduously knitting warm garments of all descriptions, preparing seasonable gifts, and undertaking in the thorough and energetic way characteristic of the fair sex, the intricate arrangements involved un the forwarding welcome presents to all parts

Of the United Kingdom as well as to France and Belgium .

And their endeavours proved highly successful, with the result that all the soldiers connected with the church received parcels, the contents of which cannot be surpassed from the point of view of comfort and usefulness.

Altogether thirty-nine men were given these gifts, and that they were keenly appreciated is full evident from the letters of fervent thanks which have been sent to the lady secretary.

Each parcel consisted of the following articles : Cake, plum pudding, cocoa, chocolates, cigarettes, and sugar (for the soldiers in France ), helmet, scarf, two body belts, socks, and mittens,
