A LOCAL MP has warned the Government that their proposals for the future of the fire service in Wales and England would lead to the closure of rural fire stations.
Under new legislation discussed in the House of Commons last week, the government will have the power to order Fire Authorities to dispose of assets.”
Adam Price, MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, said: “The closure of so many vital service providers such as shops, schools and pubs, has devastated our rural communities.
“This legislation gives Government the power to demand the sale of fire stations in its modernisation drive, putting the level of service provided at risk.
“The new legislation could lead to the closure of a large number of fire stations, which are vital to the safety of our communities.”
