OLIVER BUNDELL COGGINS Promoted to
Station Officer

THE NEW BOSS The new station officer is 40-year-old Mr. Oliver Bundell Coggins, a regular fireman who has been stationed in Llanelly since 1954. he is a graduate of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Mr. Coggins has been a fireman for 15 years. He is married with two children. Before the war Mr. Coggins served in the Merchant Navy – he went to sea when he was 14 – and during the war he enlisted in the Royal Navy. When I visited him on Tuesday he was in the throes of tidying up his new home at 30 Pentwyn Road Betws – two doors up form Mr. D. W. Jones. |

STAN LEWIS Promoted to Assistant Divisional Officer and then to Third Officer

1st APRIL 1976 PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT DIVISIONAL OFFICER He has already taken up his new post at Brigade headquarters, Carmarthen, as Deputy Divisional Commander of A division (Carmarthenshire) He joined the Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire Joint Fire Brigade in 1964 and served at Llanelli Fire Station were he was promoted to Leading Fireman in 1967. In 1969 he was promoted to sub-officer at Ammanford and in 1973 station officer in charge of Ammanford Fire Station. CYPRUS Mr. Lewis Has served in the RAF fire service for five years and spent two and a half years in Cyprus at the International Airport, Nicosia. A native of Pontyates, he is married with an 11 year old daughter, Katherine. His wife, Letitia, is a district sister wit the Ammanford/Penygroes group practice. The family will be leaving their home at 30 Pentwyn Road, Betws, to live at Carmarthen. |

TOWN'S EX-FIRE CHIEF PROMOTED DYFED County Fire Brigade divisional commander Stan Lewis has been promoted to Third Officer of the Brigade. Educated at Gwendraeth Grammar School, he joined the Fire Service at Llanelli in 1964. During his career he has been stationed at Ammanford twice – first as a Leading Fireman and then as Station Officer in charge. He has been an examiner with the Fire Services Examinations Board for the past 11 years, is a graduate of the Institution of Fire Engineers and a Fellow of the British Institute of Management. His varied career includes a five-year spell in the RAF fire and rescue service and two-and-a-half years as a member of the Crash Rescue Team at Nicosia International Airport in Cyprus. His wife, Letitia, is a District Sister in the Cross Hands and Tumble areas and they have one daughter, Katherine, who is married and lives in Devon. (Stan Lewis eventually retired as Deputy Chief Officer )

DAVID GROVE Promoted to Station Officer

8th APRIL 1976 NEW STATION OFFICER A native of Morriston, Mr Grove joined the Swansea Fire Brigade in 1964, and worked there as a fireman for 10 years. He became leading fireman at Llanelli in 1974 and was promoted to sub officer at Milford Haven a year later. Aged 31, Mr. Grove is married with a year old son, Paul, and a daughter Annette, aged two. His wife, Margaret, is a native of Saron.

ALAN LEWIS Promoted to Station Officer

9th APRIL 1992 ALAN IS TOWN'S NEW FIRE CHIEF NEW fire chief at Ammanford is 36-year-old Alan Lewis of Tumble. Station Officer Lewis was born in Pontyberem , became a fireman in 1973 and spent the first 12 years of his career at Llanelli. In 1985 he was temporarily promoted to Leading Fireman at Carmarthen before permanent promotion back to Llanelli in 1986. He was then promoted to Sub-officer and worked as an instructor at the training department at Carmarthen prior to temporary promotion to staff officer. Mr. Lewis will also be supervisory officer in charge of Llandeilo fire station. He is married to Helen, also from Tumble, and they have two children, Joanne, 13, and Jonathan, 10.

CLIVE PUGH Promoted to Station Officer

2nd JANUARY 1992 CLIVE PROMOTED TO STATION OFFICER CLIVE PUGH, pictured (37), former temporary Station Officer at Ammanford Fire Station had been appointed Station Officer at Aberystwyth. A native of Felingwm, he joined Dyfed Fire Brigade 14 years ago and prior to that worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. He was married to Julie who comes from Tumble and they have three children – Matthew (14), Bethan (12), and Sion (8). The family will be moving from New Road, Ammanford, to Aberystwyth.
