Fireman Philips has served at Llanelly and Ammanford , and during the early part of the war was attached to several stations in West Wales. In 1943, at the age of 18, he entered the Army and saw active service with the Gloucester Regiment and the Dorsetshire Regiment in India, Malaya and Japan. A native of Betws, he attended Betws Primary School and Ammanford Secondary Modern School. He was apprenticed as a motor mechanic before entering the fire service. Fireman Philips lives with his wife, Mrs. Diana Mary Philips, and their daughters, Eleanor (12) and Sheila (8), at 96 Margaret Street, Ammanford. |
