FIREMEN PERCH PRECARIOUSLY ON GARNANT ROOFTOPS WHILE DISMANTLING A CHIMNEY DISLODGED BY STORMS. |
IN RUINS … THE CAPEL HENDRE WELFARE HALL AFTER 100 MPH WINDS TORE THROUGH THE VILLAGE. | ||||||||||
A flat roof from the rear of a house at Arcade Terrace was blown away, hitting the next-door chimney which in turn collapsed onto an adjoining roof leaving gaping holes. Firemen had to lash themselves to ladders and the ladders to the roof while dismantling the unsafe chimney in gale-force winds. The roof blew off hit the chimney and landed between two house extensions below us. |
I was working that day and when we arrived to another call in Banc-y-Ddrainen Capel Hendre, we actually saw this roof cartwheeling down the road towards us. | STORY: PHOTO:
