HISTORY OF THE BED PUSH
This was the first bed push from GCG to Ammanford. To get into the carnival spirit and to attract charity money from those we passed we decided to wear fancy dress. Which was carried on until we disbanded the run.

27th JULY 1978 The sponsored bed-race organised by the Ammanford Fire Station raised about £600 for the disabled mini- bus appeal fund. Starter for the race, which began at Gwaun-cae-Gurwen Square was, Mr. Glyn Walsh, Chief Fire Officer of Dyfed and the captain of the winning team was presented with the trophy by the Mayor of Ammanford, Mrs. M.M. Dent. Our picture shows the full time and part-time firemen who took part in what proved to be a hilarious event. A £100 of this was raised by myself by getting sponsorship from friends and the kind contributions from the town's shopkeepers. |

Members of Ammanford Fire Station are grateful to Glanaman Hospital who loaned the beds, to Mr. K. Burton who acted as Marshall and to the public for their generous sponsorship.

The bed push was resurrected as a pre run to the Open Day. It allowed us to collect money the night before the Open Day and at the same time advertised the Open Day the following day.
