Henry Ivor James, Abercothi Farm, Nantgaredig, who pleaded guilty, was fined £2 at Llandilo Police Court on Saturday for having displayed a light in a field during darkness at 9 o'clock on September 29 th .
The light, it was stated, came from a big fire which could be seen for miles around, after the burning of a heap of wheat husks and straw during the afternoon.
The fire had apparently burned out before darkness, but in the absence of the farmer and his family from the farmhouse in the evening the heap again caught alight.
P. C. T. J. Williams and a Special Constable carried about 50 gallons of water to throw on the flames before they were subdued.
The chairman, Colonel Delme Davies-Evans, said care should have been taken by the farmer to see the fire was out.
